Problems of the worth and value of generative art aren’t new. What’s new about AI generation is that it tends to disguise itself as artificial human intelligence. Here Cory Doctorow is making a rather John-Ruskin-like argument that a cast-plaster replica of a statue lacks the aesthetic meaning and integrity of a human-carved marble statue.<\/p>\n

It’s also like arguing that a happily family should enjoy a convivial dinner and conversation together, instead of sinking into the family couch and staring at TV screens that present dramas and comedies that pretend to be about families. That may indeed be the wiser and better family choice, but how many people in the heyday of broadcast TV would actually do that.<\/p>\n
