V2_Community invites the Erasmus School of Philosophy for a two-day symposium: The Multiple Arts of Schematism in the Depths of the Soul, co-organized by TU Vienna. Posing the question of the schematism once more means asking what is it, beyond what is already intelligible or sensible, that makes us think in the way we do? What are the corporeal, cultural, political, and technical schemas that animate us? How do new media, forms of artificial intelligence, and digital money get a hold on our souls today? And where does the free and wild creation of schemas that could break their spell occur?

Speakers are Vera Bühlmann (TU Vienna), Miriam Rasch (Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam), Christian Lotz (Michigan State University), Daniel W. Smith (Purdue University & Paris XIII), Stephen Zepke (Vienna), with respondents: Ryan Kopaitich (EUR), Florian Cramer (WdKA), Georgios Tsagdis (EUR), and Robert Gorny (TU Delft). There are also workshops by David van Putten (EUR), Sander Tuns (EUR), Ricardo M. Villa (TU Vienna), Lorenzo Vicari (TU Vienna), Andrej Radman (TU Delft), Cris Argüelles (TU Vienna), Sonia de Jager (EUR), and Joost De Raeymaecker (EUR), as well as the film performance Time Frames (2023) by Ollie Palmer (photo).

A more detailed schedule with abstracts is online for the Friday (evening lecture by Miriam Rasch) and the Saturday (evening lecture Stephen Zepke). All lectures and workshops are open to the public. Entrance is 4 euro.

3×3: Dennis de Bel Online Radio I
Friday 26 May 2023
v2.nl/events/3x3dennis-de-bel-online-radio-i

On Friday 26 May we will publish the first 3×3 radio session of Dennis de Bel. During these 3×3 sessions Dennis de Bel, Iris Long, and V2_ experiment with the format of the radio programme in a series of loose-end, deep-dive conversations. Dennis de Bel invited Iris Long and three special guests across multiple time zones and locations for a series of conversations on the notion of planetary infrastructure/mega-structures. The sessions will take the form of a “zoom-in” journey across time, scale, altitudes and attitudes: from a bird’s eye view (or is it a kite?) down to the ground to the insides of a cave, encompassing topics of planetary computation, data centers, geology, extraction, history of China’s third-front movement, digital-colonialism and so forth. The guest in the first episode is Solveig Qu Suess. The second episode is scheduled for 30 June.

Tryday: Marjolijn Dijkman
Friday 2 June 2023
18:00–21:00h
V2_Lab for the Unstable Media
Free entrance
v2.nl/events/tryday-marjolijn-dijkman

This Tryday, artist Marjolijn Dijkman, composer Henry Vega and electro-technician Lukas Pol will share the first robotic experiments for the film and sound installation Between the Lines (work in progress). Between the Lines will trace the monumental impact of climate change, industrialization, and the First World War in the polluted and traumatized landscapes of the ‘Zone Rouge’ in the North East of France.

The ‘Trydays’ are one-off events that take place on a Friday during the Kunstavond, between 18:00–21:00h. With the Trydays V2_ gives artists an opportunity to try-out a new work, installation or performance.

Steffan Hofland, Alex Falk, and/or Arie Altena discuss the program of V2_, and what goes on in the world of art & technology. They spin some of their favorite music, hoping to surprise the listener, and they dig into the history of V2_. Sometimes they invite guests too. Tune in at www.operator-radio.com on Thursday 8 June 15:00h.

The Evening of the V2_Archive
Thursday 22 June 2023
20:00–23:00h
V2_Lab for the Unstable Media
Entrance €7 / €5, tickets
v2.nl/events/evening-of-the-v2_archive

At the Evening of the V2_Archive we’ll look at digital archives as dynamic spaces for creative experimentation. How can digital archives inform and inspire artistic practice and even provide raw material for new artworks? At this event we’ll take a closer look at a range of artistic approaches that can uncover new patterns and relationships in the V2_ archive but also offer a fresh perspective on how digital archives can be experienced.

Marijn Bril will take us on a question-driven journey through the online archive, after which Sandra Golubjevaitė will lead the audience in a collective ambient browsing experience. Finally, Vera van der Burg will show us how artificial intelligence could radically change how digital archives are used and experienced in the future. V2_’s archivist Arie Altena will introduce the V2_archive, and Katažyna Jankovska – guest-curator of the event – will moderate the evening.
