CIAN DAYRIT

Art Basel, CH
13-16 June 2024

NOME is pleased to announce a solo presentation of Cian Dayrit at Art Basel Statements 2024, where he will premiere the work Intensified Necropolitical Framework for Ecocidal Ravenous Nation-building Operations (INFERNO). Engaging ethnography, archaeology, history, and mythology, Dayrit’s works often examines the consequences of colonialism, exploring how it has shaped and continues to influence societies, identities, and power dynamics. Within Dayrit’s larger project of counter-mapping militarism in the Philippines, INFERNO interrogates the role of state forces as a tool for puppet regimes in perpetuating neo-colonial conditions.

Cian Dayrit (b. 1989, Manila) lives and works in Manila. His first solo exhibition in the United States, entitled Liberties Were Taken, opened at the Blaffer Art Museum in Houston on 31 May 2024. He has exhibited his works in international biennials, including the Biennale of Sydney, Gwangju Biennale, Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Bangkok Biennale, Kathmandu Triennale, the New Museum Triennial Songs for Sabotage, and the Göteborg Biennial. Dayrit has also participated in exhibitions at Museo Reina Sofia and CentroCentro in Madrid; Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh; ParaSite, Hong Kong; Hammer Museum, L.A.; and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. Recent exhibitions in 2024 include presentations at Barbican Art Gallery, London; and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, UK.
