During Art Rotterdam 2021, DNK Ensemble will enact a one-off re-interpretation of Dick Raaijmakers’ iconic piece Intona at V2_.

For the original 1991 work, Raaijmakers heated, boiled, and pierced his microphones to capture their ‘dying breath’ within a musically theatrical context, he even dissolved them in acid. Doing so, he mobilized the microphone as an instrument in and on itself, disconnected from its common reproductive function.

In a four-day reworking Intona Re-enacted, the DNK Ensemble investigates this unique performance. Following an opening performance on 1 July, the space and the materials used will be slowly transformed and processed into an exhibition, on which DNK will work continuously. Here, Raaijmakers’ points of departure regarding the microphone and its cultural and musical function, serve as a guideline for a series of performative and transformative processes.

Intona Re-enacted will be realized by DNK Ensemble, with André Avelãs & Martijn Tellinga (composition & performance), Mint Park & Gökay Atabek (performance), and Radboud Mens (engineering / audio recording / post-production).

The performance takes place on 1 July, and has a limited capacity. Please register to attend. There is no need to reserve for the exhibition that is open from 2–4 July. Intona Re-enacted is part of Art Rotterdam.

Tryday: Raumklang

v2.nl/events/tryday-raumklang

On 9 July there is an opportunity to ‘try-out’ the installation Raumklang by Zeno van den Broek and Robin Koek at V2_. The installation invites visitors to experience invisible 4-dimensional objects in space which they can only perceive through hearing. The work fully engages with the potential of sound, acoustics and interaction in order to forge deeper relationships between the visitor and the space they are in. The installation is co-produced by V2_. At the moment the event is fully booked. You can still register, and we will let you know when a spot becomes available.

Imagine an eerie descent underwater, beneath the waves. In Ocean Bloom Sandipan Nath invites us to undergo an embodied sonic experience of a noisy North Sea near the shores of Texel, the Netherlands. Together with composer and media artist Sól Ey, Nath seeks to address the possibility of uncomfortable sounds and disturbances to overcome the decentralization of human primacy, opening up to nonhuman and material agencies.

This Try-day is a walk-in event, and is free of charge. Ocean Bloom was conceived during the V2_Lab Summer Sessions 2020 and is currently supported by the Creative Industries Fund NL.

Memenesia
New PDF-publication on meme culture
v2.nl/publishing/memenesia

Memenesia is a PDF-publication about meme culture, and shows how memes make reality visible and expand the experience of reality. The texts illustrate the fractured nature of the meme landscape and with it also its richness and liveliness. Taken as a whole Memenesia presents not only a critical view on meme culture, but also on our digital reality today. The publication is edited by Mike Watson and Jerry Galle, designed by Mona Lisa’s, and features contributions by Jerry Galle, Caroline Sinders, Valentina Tanni, Marc Tuters, Joshua Citarella, Mike Watson, and Kim de Groot. Memenesia is an outcome of Jerry Galle’s fellowship at V2_. You can download Memenesia for free from the V2_website.
