Thank you to those who joined us to launch the report. And special thanks to Tao-Tao Chang, Alex Declino, Hannah Andrews and Keri Elmsly who joined us on stage to discuss the report. Tao captured the mood very succinctly: ”What we don’t want is for AI and technology to become the new Latin. Once upon a time, if you could read Latin, you were in the room where the rules were made. If you couldn’t, you weren’t. It was very simple.”

Our latest publication Under the Cloud is finally here! This new publication documents artistic research in China’s Guizhou region—a site of rapid transformation. The province is one of the eight national ‘big data hubs’ under the ‘Data in the East, Computing in the West program,’ the Chinese strategic approach to data that aims to leverage the distinct advantages of each region toward technological growth. Featuring interviews, essays and field notes from trips led by Iris Long and Zike He (2021–2023), it’s a deep dive into infrastructure, art and place.
